This is the thick catalog for the comprehensive retrospective of Antin’s work by LACMA’s highly respected curator, Howard Fox. “I was determined to present women without pathos or helplessness” – Eleanor Antin. Condition: Near Fine with a hint of wear to edges and back cover, inside is tight, bright and clean with stunningly beautiful illustrations. Additional Information: Eleanor Antin (née Fineman; February 27, 1935) is an American performance artist, film-maker, installation artist, conceptual artist and feminist artist. 100 Boots is Antin’s best-known conceptual work. In this project, she set up 100 boots in various configurations and settings, photographed them, and created 51 postcards of the images that were mailed to hundreds of recipients around the world from 1971-73. 100 Boots relied on the recipients to remember and construct the boots’ adventures, as the postcards were mailed out at intervals ranging from 3 days to 5 weeks depending upon what [Antin] took to be the’internal necessities’ of the narrative. It documents the boots in a mock picaresque photo diary, beginning at the Pacific Ocean and ending in New York City, where their journey was presented in an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art. Cavemodern was founded in 2005 as a home for important “modern” books and works on paper. “Cave” meant a home for both the tangible touch of beautiful objects and a cozy virtual den for armchair exploration. “Modern” starts with the art and literature that went beyond realistic depictions to expressive use of color, non-traditional materials, and new techniques and mediums. Our focus has evolved to be on important pieces by cultural innovators that take their work in new, unexpected, and modern directions. This item is in the category “Books & Magazines\Antiquarian & Collectible”. The seller is “cavemodern” and is located in this country: US. Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Collectible Exhibition Poster on thick paper. Paper size approximately: Height 35 inches Width 26 inches 88.9. Cm x 66.04cm. Poster: 26 x 36 inches. About the artist: Alexander Calder; July 22, 1898 – November 11, 1976 was an American sculptor known both for his innovative mobiles (kinetic sculptures powered by motors or air currents) that embrace chance in their aesthetic, his static “stabiles”, and his monumental public sculptures. [1] Calder preferred not to analyze his work, saying, Theories may be all very well for the artist himself, but they shouldn’t be broadcast to other people. In addition to sculptures, Calder painted throughout his career, beginning in the early 1920s. He picked up his study of printmaking in 1925, and continued to produce illustrations for books and journals. His projects from this period include pen-and-ink line drawings of animals for a 1931 publication of Aesop’s fables. As Calder’s sculpture moved into the realm of pure abstraction in the early 1930s, so did his prints. The thin lines used to define figures in the earlier prints and drawings began delineating groups of geometric shapes, often in motion. Calder also used prints for advocacy, as in poster prints from 1967 and 1969 protesting the Vietnam War. As Calder’s professional reputation expanded in the late 1940s and 1950s, so did his production of prints. Masses of lithographs based on his gouache paintings were marketed, and deluxe editions of plays, poems, and short stories illustrated with fine art prints by Calder became available. Colors of actual item may vary slightly from colors on your screen due to digital screen calibration varying between digital devices. See my other listings for more art. Thank you for looking!
