Hi, making room for new inventory. Original 1950s vintage painting on canvas board, oil or acrylic, some texture and layering to paint, signed Benny Acosta (dated 1958). Lovely original 1950s artwork from La Puente, California, a small town 20 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. The artist’s name and location are written on the back of the board. The painting has a quiet dirt country road beside foothills and fields, a pale blue sky overhead. There is a grove of dense trees on the right side behind a small red house. Wildflowers dot the green landscape. The hills are shades of blue and purple. Cameo canvas board measures 17 7/8″ Width x 13 7/8″ Height. Note: Overall good condition for age with some wear, spots and markings. You have feedback or communication issues. Our store policies and contact info are on front page of our store. Thanks so much for your interest.

CALIFORNIA IN RELIEF: Thirty Wood Engravings by Richard Wagener. Author: Wagener, Richard Title: CALIFORNIA IN RELIEF: Thirty Wood Engravings by Richard Wagener Publication: San Francisco: The Book Club of California, 2009 Edition: First Edition. This is copy 14 of 300 copies signed by Richard Wagener. Additionally inscribed and dated by Wagener to Gordon Van De Water, past president of the Zamorano Club, once on a prefatory blank leaf and again on the colophon. One of the leading American wood engravers, Richard Wagener has created a visual account of his wanderings throughout California in this lavish new work. In thirty original prints and short prose pieces describing them, he chronicles a journey that begins and ends in Los Angeles with stops in the San Jacinto Mountains, the Antelope Valley, Sonoma County, and the Sierra Nevada. Like John Muir and Gary Snyder, Wagener is a wanderer, explorer and observer of California, creating a poetry of place through both words and images, all born of actual experience. Not since Paul Landacre mastered the aesthetic and technical challenges of wood engraving in the early twentieth-century has any California artist achieved prominence in the medium. Wagener’s images of nature – his stately Sierra trees, stark peaks and rocky crags – and his urban architectural monuments – the Pantages Theater and the Griffith Observatory – combine to make this work a deeply personal record of distinctive California locations. Introduction by Victoria Dailey. Designed and printed by Peter Rutledge Koch. Original tan paper-covered boards over a dark green cloth spine, with a Wagener engraving on the front and a printed paper spine label. A fine copy in the illustrated glassine wrapper and the publisher’s slipcase. Established in 1981, Johnson Rare Books & Archives offers a wide array of materials from fine first editions to holographic letters, vernacular photography, archives, and other cultural resources. Our bricks and mortar location in downtown Covina, The Book Shop, is located about 20 miles east of Los Angeles. This ultra rare vintage 1928 stone lithograph orange crate label depicts a little girl in a fancy bright red birthday party dress and a festive cone-shaped hat. She raises a baton with her right arm to conduct a small orchestra of her favorite toy musicians. They all are neatly arranged on a blue and yellow checkerboard tile floor that fades into a pale green, revealing nothing more of the room they are in. Children have always been a popular subject in advertising materials, and who wouldn’t be charmed by this adorable scene? The early sunburst variety of the Sunkist Oranges logo is prominently displayed. This label is vintage – not a copy and is in attractive condition with a long horizontal fold, 1/4″ tear under “H” & “Picked, and a patent stamp is on the back.

To maximize the chances your package will arrive before Christmas, please order BEFORE November 24. California State Route 39 sign. Up for sale today is this California state route 39 route sign. Made to the exact 1964 standard from when California switched from white miner’s spade route markers to green ones. An updated version of this shield is still in use to the present day on this famous highway. Take this opportunity to show your love for California and own a piece of roadside history all in one! This state route currently exists in segments, due to a massive mud and rockslide in 1978. The segments cover portions of Orange County and Los Angeles County. The Orange County section runs from the Pacific Coast Highway (State Route 1) in Huntington Beach to Whittier Avenue in La Habra. The Los Angeles County section runs from its intersection with Interstate 10 in West Covina to its junction with State Route 2 in the Angeles National Forest. I can, of course, make this sign with any route or destination of your choice. Here is your chance to own a beautiful sign commemorating all the fun you and your loved ones have had along this lovely route, without breaking the bank. An original of these is very rare to find scrapped; most still enjoy their active service along the roads of California. I can make any destination sign; inquire about your home town! The sign is flat printed on steel, with completely accurate layout and fonts. It weighs about 12 lb. And is 23 by 25 inches. If you would like a different size, city name, or route number, please do not hesitate to inquire. This is a high quality, heavy steel, non-reflective sign – perfect for indoor or outdoor display, with great gloss to replicate the old-school porcelain look. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close! I can of course make these signs with any route number of your choice, and not just this style, but older and newer ones, and even the classic mileage, direction, and city limit guide signs from bygone eras. Anything you would like, made with unsurpassed quality right here in the good old US of A, packed with care, and mailed from zip code 61833. Life doesn’t happen along the interstates. It’s against the law. Please note: The watermark and bear logo in the design preview will not appear on the actual sign. We have begun adding a watermark because we have had problems with other companies copying our artwork to make lesser-quality imitations. You will only get this high level of quality in design and materials from Signs by Jake.
